Channel marker with quadruple bell striker. If you zoom in, you can see noticeable wear to the edges of the bell from constant strikes.

The bell looked only slightly larger than a locomotive bell, so maybe just larger than a 12" diameter. If I see one of these on land at the Coast Guard station I'll get exact measurements posted here.

There's also a video of this bouy bell in action, once I figure out how to post it.

Just out of curiosity, I did draw two circles 12" and 19"...the bell has to be in between. Definitely larger than 12", but not 19" either. I couldn't get close enough to notice any markings on the bell.

If you liked this Channel Marker, your going to love the next one I'll be posting here. It's much bigger and it has a large whistle instead, and the base of the bouy actually acts as a bellows in the up & down wave action. It sounds hauntingly lonesome out there. I'm waiting for perfect conditions to video it.

Can you tell us more about that monster sized bell you've recently picked up?

George

That was in 2007 but in 2010, the business was still there.

Impressive stock and that close from the highway, the owner must feel pretty confident with robbers!!!
